Thinking about upgrading to DirectRT v2004?  If so, here are some of the new features to help you decide.  For an overview of DirectRT and a summary of all features (old and new), return to the main DirectRT page.  If you are ready to order or upgrade, see our order page for details.

There are many enhancements that come with the 2004 version of DirectRT.  For the most part all of these are optional.  If you have become accustomed to using DirectRT v2000 or v2002, you should be able to continue without having to learn anything new.  v2004 is fully backwards compatible so that DirectRT experiments from all previous versions should run the same as they always have without requiring modification.

  • New utility that reduces the individual DirectRT data files (or *ANY* vertical data files) into a single, one row per subject data file for immediate analysis. Extremely flexible and easy to use, allowing options to block, recode and make new variables. No more manual data reduction!!

  • New random number function allows for random SOAs and display times--use it anywhere you want bounded random values in your input file.

  • Accept input from a greater array of input devices (e.g., touch screens, light guns)

  • Option to write trial information to the data file even when RTs are not measured.

  • Enhanced Voice RT capability--works great now on most machines with a basic soundcard.

  • GNAT/Go-NoGo capability--define "no response" as the correct response--includes a new GNAT sample

  • Play video files with extremely high precision just like any other stimulus--support for MPEG, AVI and other video types supported by the Windows Media Player.

  • Display animation files with high precision start up time and screen location

  • Optionally clear stimuli from the screen while still waiting for an RT

  • Optionally maintain a fixed response time window regardless of response latency

  • Assess simultaneous vocal and manual responses

  • Increased protection against overwriting existing data

  • Data protected if session ends early

  • Support for a greater array of screen resolutions

  • Greater capacity, e.g., stimuli per trial

  • Many other general tweaks and fixes
